Day 4 Happy Easter
Bible Lesson about Jesus rising from the dead
John 20 Jesus Rose from the Dead (Luke 24, Matthew 28, Mark 16)
Materials: Bibles, Resurrection eggs (see lesson details), egg(s) to hide
Greet students and open with prayer.
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for the opportunity to gather together. Help us to understand more about the amazing things you have done for us. Amen
Lesson Introduction:
What are your favorite things about Easter? Why do we celebrate Easter? Easter is when we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. We are celebrating that after Jesus died, he came back to life.
Bible reading:
Each writer of the gospels gives their own unique account of the resurrection of Jesus. They all had the opportunity to meet the risen Lord. Let’s take a look at what John wrote about his memories of that glorious day.
Help each student find John 20. (Even if they do not yet know how to read) Read John 20. Depending on the age and attentiveness of the students read all or part of the chapter.
A way to remember:
Use Resurrection eggs to review the events leading up to the resurrection. Here are a sample of things that could be placed in numbered plastic Easter eggs. Or purchase a set that is already assembled.
Resurrection Egg #1
Any leaf to represent the palm branches that the people of Jerusalem spread on the road as they welcomed Jesus. You may could cut the leaf to resemble a palm branch.
Resurrection Egg #2
Three coins to represent the 30 pieces of silver that Judas Iscariot received to betray Jesus.
Resurrection Egg #3
A small piece of terry cloth to represent the towel that Jesus used to dry his disciples’ feet after he had washed them.
Resurrection Egg #4
A small communion cup to represent the last supper.
Alternatively, use a communion wafer or a small piece of bread.
Resurrection Egg #5
A flower to represent the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus went with his disciples to pray before he was arrested.
Resurrection Egg #6
A piece of string to represent the rope that was used to tie Jesus up when he was arrested.
Resurrection Egg #7
A small stem of any plant with thorns to represent the crown of thorns that the soldiers put on Jesus’ head as they mocked him.
Resurrection Egg #8
A small cross to represent the crucifixion of Jesus.
Alternatively, use 3 small nails.
Resurrection Egg #9
A toothpick with one tip dipped in red paint or nail polish to represent the spear used by the soldier to pierce Jesus’ side.
Resurrection Egg #10
A small strip of white cloth to represent the strips of linen used to wrap the body of Jesus before he was placed in a tomb.
Resurrection Egg #11
A small stone to represent the large stone placed in front of the entrance to Jesus’ tomb.
Resurrection Egg #12
Leave the 12th egg empty to represent the empty tomb.
Have students take turns opening one egg at a time in order. Make sure each student sees the item. Then ask What does this item remind us of?

Extra time? Game:
Find the egg. Choose one student to be the seeker. Have that student step out into the hall for a moment. Choose another student to hide the egg. Allow the rest of the students to see where it is hidden. Call In the student from the hall. Have the class help the student find the egg using hot and cold descriptions.
Easter egg hunt, use more eggs and divide into two groups. One group hides the eggs than the other group finds the eggs.
